Long overlooked within the field of architecture, maintenance activities now appear to be taking on new significance. The accelerating climate crisis and growing awareness of the construction sector’s significant contribution to it are gradually shifting the focus of architecture towards existing buildings, making it essential to work with them. From routine maintenance to rehabilitation, the age-old art of ‘making structures — and materials — last’ is regaining prestige and, above all, ecological, economic, aesthetic and political relevance.
