The context of the Anthropocene puts the question of innovation and its relationship to progress in radical tension. On the one hand, the entry into a capitalism of intensive innovation is one of the commercial manifestations of the “great acceleration”, which accentuates human pressures on ecosystems. On the other hand, the capacity of innovation to respond to the challenges of the Anthropocene is also being questioned. Indeed, the Anthropocene reveals new properties of so-called “responsible” innovations: enthusiasm\/disappointment loops, displacement of issues, and the need to legitimize innovation.\u00a0We will then explore three axes – political governance, the role of public action and access to common goods – in order to rethink innovation management in this new framework.<\/p>\n

Aur\u00e9lien Acquier is a Professor at ESCP Business School, Associate Dean for Sustainability Transition and Co-Director of the Deloitte – ESCP Chair in Circular Economy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
