SUMMARY:Industrial Adventures Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Industrial Adventures Seminar | Tuesday\, December 2\, 2025 – 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.\nMines Paris (60\, boulevard Saint-Michel – Paris) | Remote participation possible \n \n\nWhen two brothers\, founders of a company manufacturing fence posts and panels\, pass it on to two brothers from the next generation\, everything seems to be in order. Despite tough operating conditions\, a shrinking market\, and increasingly unfair foreign competition\, the managerial ingenuity and humanism of the new leaders succeeded in transforming the company into a model of collective performance and resilience\, impressing observers and generating enthusiasm at the École de Paris. But after twenty years of struggle\, the brutal 50% contraction of their market since the start of the war in Ukraine made protection from the commercial court inevitable. Slimmed down but saved\, the company is resuming its development. This session will be an opportunity to reflect on the future of moderate value-added industry in France\, the unspoken aspects of business transfer\, and the mysteries of the bankruptcy ecosystem. \nTo learn more about the Lippi saga\, we invite you to read the reports from previous sessions: \nWrite a true story about the company \n“Lippi: Digital Transformation\, Season 2?” \n\n«Digital Revolution: A User’s Guide»\n« Lippi: Digital Transformation\, Season 2?»\n«Write a true story about the company”\n\nRegistration \nRegistration closes on Monday\, December 1\, 2025\, at 3:00 p.m.

SUMMARY:Innovation Management Seminar
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are pleased to invite you to the December session of the Innovation Management seminar: \n  \nInnovating for humanitarian work: \nthe case of the MSF Foundation \nby \nNicolas MOTTIS \nPresident of the MSF Foundation \nClara NORDON\nExecutive Director of the MSF Foundation \nWednesday\, December 10\, 2025\nfrom  8:45 am sharp to 10:45 am \nMines Paris – 60\, boulevard Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris \nMédecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is now one of the largest international NGOs\, operating in dozens of countries and employing more than 60\,000 people. The needs encountered in its areas of intervention are immense\, and some raise questions that existing technological solutions do not yet address. The MSF Foundation is a modestly sized organization serving the field\, which acts on two complementary fronts: the development of innovations often based on cutting-edge technologies; and critical reflection by its think tank\, Crash\, which analyzes operational practices and leads sometimes sensitive debates on humanitarian issues. With a decade of experience behind it\, the Foundation is now seeing some of its projects enter the global deployment phase\, both within and outside MSF\, while many others remain at the exploratory stage. This session will illustrate an original model of innovation and discuss its main issues and challenges. \nRegistration \nFree registration–  Registration closes on Tuesday\, December 9\, 2025\, at 3:00 p.m.

SUMMARY:CERNA Research Seminar with Jeanne Astier (CREST - Polytechnique)\, Geoffrey Barrows (CREST - Polytechnique)\, Raphael Calel (Georgetown U)
DESCRIPTION:Quantifying Climate Damages When Regions Trade: A Structural Gravity Approach \n(joint with Jeanne Astier (CREST – Polytechnique)\, Geoffrey Barrows (CREST – Polytechnique)\, Raphael Calel (Georgetown U) \nThis paper presents a method for estimating treatment effects of local climate shocks when regions trade with each other. Because of spillovers induced by trade flows\, comparing the evolution of outcomes between pre-shock and post-shock periods in regions exposed versus unexposed to local shocks leads to a biased estimate of treatment effect. We model these across-region dependencies using standard assumptions from international trade theory. We use our model-consistent estimation strategy to revisit the literature on the evaluation of impacts from climate change onto country-sector gross output using year-to-year variation in temperature and counterfactual scenarios where the observed warming from 1991 to 2019 would not have occurred or considering future warming predictions. \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join lunch/dinner with Hélène before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here.

SUMMARY:Arpentage & Ecriture. STS Reading Workshop #4
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, December 11\, 2025\, 2:00–6:00 p.m. \nUTC de Paris\, 62 Bd de Sébastopol\, 75003 Paris\nroom Barthès \n \n  \nRegistration: Please register here. \nTo receive updates\, subscribe to the “Arpentage et Écriture” newsletter here. \nThe workshop is held in French. \n  \nThe workshop aims to provide a welcoming space for young researchers of all disciplinary backgrounds who are interested in the study of science and technology in France. The workshop offers a forum for discussion based on group readings\, fundamental concept discussions\, and STS writing practices. \nThe workshop is organized around two primary activities: \nCollective Reading and Analysis (Exploration /Arpentage) \nMost sessions involve exploring a reference text or recent publication in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). This approach begins with dividing a book or collection of articles into equal parts to facilitate collective exploration. During the first part of the session\, participants read and take notes on different topics\, such as theoretical concepts and arguments\, links to their research\, empirical examples\, and questions or points of confusion. In the second part of the session\, these notes are shared to build a collective understanding and deepen the discussion around the text and key concepts in the field of STS. \nWriting in the Humanities and Social Sciences \nOne to two sessions per year are dedicated to discussing scientific writing practices: \n– Presenting research findings to respondents or peers.\n– Writing an ethnographic text and constructing a scientific narrative. \n  \nAtelier #4\nThis session\, organized in the form of an “Arpentage / Exploration”\, will be devoted to \nNotre nouvelle nature : Guide de terrain de l’Anthropocène\,\nAnna Lowenhaupt Tsing\, Jennifer Deger\, Alder Keleman Saxena \net Feifei Zhou\, Seuil\, 2025. \n \n \nSeminar Details\nThe seminar details are as follows (they will also be sent to participants by email):\n– In-person in Paris at different locations to discover each other’s laboratories and universities\n– Half-day sessions (four hours\, including a snack break)\n– Two types of sessions: Reading Workshop: Theory\, Concepts\, Methodology and Writing Workshop: Analysis\, Writing\, Fieldwork\n– No work is required beforehand. Reading is done on site collectively using methods such as arpentage\, which explains the extended duration of the sessions.\n– A friendly atmosphere: we suggest sharing a meal after each session. \nWorkshop Organizers and Facilitators\nAurélien Béranger – Doctorant\, Laboratoire Costech\, Université de Technologie de Compiègne.\nEmail : aurelien.beranger@utc.fr \nAlexia Pronesti – Doctorante\, GSPR & Cermes3\, EHESS.\nEmail : alexia.pronesti@ehess.fr \nSolène Sarnowski – Doctorante\, Centre de Sociologie de l’Innovation (CSI)\, Mines Paris & Télécom-Paris\, Institut Polytechnique de Paris\, NOS.\nEmail : solene.sarnowski@minesparis.psl.eu \nDorian Groll – Doctorant\, Centre Maurice Halbwachs\, CAK.\nEmail : dorian.groll@ens.psl.eu \nSeminar program\nLearn more about the 2025-2026 Program for the seminar ‘Arpentage & Écriture: STS Reading Workshop’. \n

SUMMARY:Séminaire « Entreprises\, Responsabilités et Civilisations »
DESCRIPTION:  \nLa Chaire Théorie de l’Entreprise a le plaisir de vous inviter à la prochaine séance du séminaire « Entreprises\, Responsabilités et Civilisations »  \n  \n le 11 décembre 2025 \n  \n de 16h à 18h00 \n(version hybride) \nTaming Unicorns: Toward a New Normal of Responsible Entrepreneurship  \nwith Matthew Grimes  \nà \nMines Paris – PSL \n60 Boulevard Saint Michel\, 75006 PARIS \nInscription \nAbstract: \nWhile entrepreneurial disruption has proven a source of abundance by way of reforming markets and legacy institutions\, it is also frequently characterized by the displacement of existing professions\, industries\, and livelihoods among other societal and ecological externalities. Prior research has often assumed that such reform and externalities are inevitable and inseparable aspects of entrepreneurial disruption. In this presentation\, however\, I will discuss the institutional foundations which have led to the current configuration of the field of startup activity and the global emphasis on “unicorn startups.” I will subsequently highlight how these institutions might be reoriented toward a “new normal” focused on responsible venture creation\, wherein the reformative aspects of disruption are prioritized while negative externalities are controlled. In doing so\, the discussion will illustrate interdependencies likely to both resist and emerge from such a transition toward responsible entrepreneurship\, while proposing a process of societal-level governance reform needed to address those tensions. The resulting conceptual model contributes to the emerging literature on responsible governance of innovation by shifting the focus toward the systems change needed to overcome institutional-level constraints and transition toward a responsible entrepreneurship ideology. In so doing I also challenge prior theoretical conceptualizations regarding the relationship between disruption and entrepreneurship. \n \n  \nProfessor Grimes is a member of the Organisational Theory and Information Systems subject group at Cambridge Judge Business School\, Academic Co-Director of the Cambridge Judge Entrepreneurship Centre\, and current Deputy Editor at the Academy of Management Journal (formerly Associate Editor). His research interests include entrepreneurship and sustainable development. He examines how individuals and organizations create\, introduce\, and sustain positive social change by way of entrepreneurship by studying both the contextual and individual factors that contribute to innovation and the governance of innovation \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Maintaining. Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:Seminar ‘Maintaining. Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’ \nPrescribing and maintaining in public spaces: Challenges for developers \n  \nA change of scenery for this eighth session as the seminar moves to Coeur Défense to meet with the Paris La Défense teams. Heir to a unique urban form and institutional history\, the developer is also the operator of public spaces that are becoming heritage sites as much as they are being reconfigured. Though not fully embraced\, this form of integrated management has become established as crises\, reinvestments\, and the absence of municipal support have unfolded. \n– How does the developer reconcile his mission to preserve an existing structure that is not just limited to the immutability of infrastructure\, but also forms a composite heritage subject to the ravages of time and constant renewal of its models? \n– How do maintenance considerations influence project owners’ specifications and project design processes? \n– How does the operator’s gaze distract the designer from the illusion of “a world made up of finished\, solid things that are impermeable to change or subsequent intervention” (Pauline Lefebvre\, 2024\, Maintenance et dé-projection) \nOur two speakers\, David Guerra and Damien Oberlé\, will share their experiences to reveal the material fabric of these spaces filled with objects\, and bring into dialogue the temporalities that clash within the depth of the project in a common language where designing\, prescribing\, and maintaining are conjugate with knowing. \nAnd we will have the pleasure of welcoming Daniel Florentin\, a researcher from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées\, who will kick off the discussion. \n  \nDate: Friday\, December 12\, 2025\, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. \nVenue: Cœur Défense\, Tour B\, 110 Espl. du Général de Gaulle\, 92400 Courbevoie. \n  \nParticipation is free but registration is required. Please register here.\nAttendance is limited. Kindly let us know if you are unable to attend. \nThe seminar will be held in French. \n  \n\nOrganized by architectural agency SCAU and Jérôme Denis.\nFind out more about the seminar program and objectives \n

SUMMARY:Industrial Adventures Seminar
DESCRIPTION:In 1968\, health authorities required Joseph and Simone Bougro\, butchers in Vendée\, to rebuild their laboratory\, which represented a year’s worth of revenue. Forced to grow\, they developed prepared meals\, which were so successful that they created Sodebo in 1973 to move into industrial production. Then their three daughters\, Marie-Laurence\, Patricia\, and Bénédicte\, now co-presidents\, developed the business. Sodebo launched numerous innovations\, diversifying into pasta\, salads\, etc. As variety often creates costly complexity in integrated companies\, specialized factories were created. To bring everything together\, a lean management specialist helped the executives structure the company\, and Margaux Mercier\, a member of the third generation of the founding family\, was involved in this transformation. Sodebo\, a medium-sized company with 3\,000 employees manufacturing more than a million products every day\, is now a benchmark in lean management. \nMandatory registration \nRegistration closes on Tuesday\, December 16\, 2025\, at 12:00 p.m.
