SUMMARY:The CSI Guests Seminar will welcome Geneviève Pruvost Cems-EHESS
DESCRIPTION:The CSI Guests Seminar will welcome \nGeneviève Pruvost \nCems-EHESS \n  \nto discuss her book \n  \nQuotidien politique \n\nFéminisme\, écologie\, subsistance \n  \n \nIntroduction to the discussion by Solène Sarnowksi \nQuatrième de couverture : Fin des sociétés paysannes\, cuisines équipées\, bétonisation des terres arables\, effacement des savoir-faire et cosmogonies autochtones\, ignorance des rythmes du monde vivant… \nDaily Politics. Feminism\, ecology\, subsistence \nBack cover (our translation): The end of peasant societies\, equipped kitchens\, the pouring of concrete across arable land\, the erasure of indigenous know-how and cosmogonies\, the ignorance of the rhythms of the living world… These various phenomena that we are learning to deplore today are definitely linked\, as ecofeminist theorists\, critics of industrial modernity\, have been telling us for half a century. This book is devoted to their thoughts\, which are little known in France\, as well as to the existential and political lessons to be drawn from them. The author explores contemporary ecological and anti-capitalist alternatives with the view to demonstrating that daily life is a founding political terrain. \nWithout the politics of everyday life\, without the collective and radical reconstruction of our subsistence\, there will be no egalitarian or ecological society. Contrary to accepted ideas\, it is not the generalization of wage-earning that has given us access to consumer society and comfort\, but colonialism and female domestic work. Another political organization of life and relations to nature is possible. On the condition that it is redistributed\, anchored in a community in contact with a biotope and its uses\, subsistence work thus rethought becomes a factor of emancipation. The fabrication of daily life then appears for what it is: a revolutionary issue. \nGeneviève Pruvost\, Quotidien Politique. SUMMARY:CERNA Research Seminar will welcome Daniel Stoehlker (European Commission)
DESCRIPTION:The Pass-Through of Temporary VAT Rate Cuts: Evidence from German Supermarket Retail \n(joint with Clemens Fuest and Florian Neumeier) \nOn 1 July 2020\, value added tax (VAT) rates were reduced in Germany to fight the economic consequences of the Corona pandemic. The VAT rate reduction was only temporary\, though\, and rates went up to their previous level on 1 January 2021. We study the price effects of the temporary VAT rate reduction in German supermarket retail using an extensive web-scrapped data set covering the daily prices of roughly 130\,000 products. To identify the causal price effects\, we compare the development of prices in Germany to those in Austria. Our findings indicate an asymmetric price response to the VAT rate cut and subsequent increase. The reduction of VAT rates led to a price decrease of roughly 1.3%\, implying that about 70% of the tax cut were passed on to consumers. In contrast\, the price effect of the VAT increase was only about half that size. We also document that the pass-through of the VAT reduction was higher in highly competitive product markets. \n\nThe paper is attached for your interest: wp-2020-341-fuest-neumeier-stoehlker-temporary-vat-rate-cuts

SUMMARY:16th international Workshop on Design Theory
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the 16th Design Theory WORKSHOP will take place from the 30th January to 31st January 2023.    \nOur establishment is currently in a work zone for several months (even years). We probably won’t be able to welcome you at Mines Paris – We are currently looking for alternative solutions in Paris downtown\, easily reachable from our school. We will keep you informed as soon as possible. \n\nWORKSHOP GOAL:\nWe welcome contributions in the areas of the Design Theory SIG :  \n1)    Design Theory and other disciplines: AI\, cognition\, engineering sciences\, data science\, biology\, physics…\n2)    The value of Design Theory for practitioners\n3)   Design Theory and Education \n4)   Design Theory and perception theory: reception and critic of design\, identity of objects\n5)   Design theory and the economics of design \nMore information can be found: https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org  /https://www.tmci.minesparis.psl.eu/design-theory-2/ / https://www.designsociety.org/ds_group/19/Design+Theory  / http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xxi9wu_design-theory_news     \nWORKSHOP ORGANIZATION \nDifferent types of sessions will be held during the first two days (9am-6pm):\n1)    Substantial presentations (45mn-1hour) of ongoing research in the research areas of the SIG\n2)    Round tables and /or open discussions on new approaches and emerging issues\n3)    Special sessions will be held to facilitate subgroup meetings on special topics or to discuss new research plans that could benefit from the cooperation of several SIG members and lead to new insights and co-publications \nBased on the work done during the previous workshops\, we will have special parallel sessions to discuss the following four topics:\n·      Design theory and creation in philosophy and culture\n·      Design theory and Artificial Intelligence\n·      Design theory and cognition and psychology\n·      Design theory and management \nFinal program and schedule: SIG Chairmen will compose the final program taking into account suggestions and proposals received from participants. Registration and submission for the workshop is detailed below. \nSUBMISSIONS AND REGISTRATION: IMPORTANT DATES\nParticipation in the two days SIG WORKSHOP : Any person asking to participate\, please register at https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org/registration/index before Jan 23th\, 2023 (participation is free\, students are welcome) https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org/registration/index\nSubmission for the WORKSHOP : For those who would like to present their work or would like to suggest topics for discussions\, please submit (via the platform https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org/submission/submit ) a short abstract of (no more than two pages) or a paper (published or unpublished).  Submission deadline is November 18th\, 2022. \n \nTHE PLATEFORM (https://designtheory.sciencesconf.org ) IS THE SAME FOR THE REGISTRATION AND FOR THE SUBMISSIONS. Please contact Stéphanie Brunet <stephanie.brunet@minesparis.psl.eu > if you have any question regarding registration and/or submission. \nPRACTICALITIES\, LOCATION and COSTS \nThe participation to the workshop is free.
