SUMMARY:The CSI Guests Seminar will host Pierre Charbonnier CNRS Researcher
DESCRIPTION:The CSI Guests Seminar will host \nPierre Charbonnier \nCNRS Researcher \nLaboratoire interdisciplinaire d’études sur les réflexivités (LIER)\, CNRS-EHESS\, Paris \nto discuss his book \nAbondance et liberté \nUne histoire environnementale des idées politiques \nIntroduction to the discussion by Roman Solé-Pomies \nAbundance and freedom. An environmental history of political ideas \nBack cover: In the form of a masterful philosophical and historical investigation\, this book offers an untold story: an environmental history of modern political ideas. It therefore does not aim to look for the seeds of ecological thought in the latter (as others have done)\, but rather to show how all of them\, whether or not they claim an ecological ideal\, are informed through a certain conception of their relationship to the earth and the environment. \nAs it turns out\, the main political categories of modernity have been based on the idea of an improvement of nature\, a decisive victory over its greed\, and unlimited access to earthly resources. The political society of free\, equal\, and prosperous individuals desired by the moderns\, especially with the rise of industry assimilated to progress\, has thus been thought as freed from the heaviness of the world. \nHowever\, this pact between democracy and growth is today called into question by climate change and the disruption of ecological balances. It is therefore up to us to give a new horizon to the ideal of political emancipation\, on the understanding that it can no longer rest on the promises of infinite extension of industrial capitalism. To achieve this\, ecology must inherit from nineteenth-century socialism the capacity it had to react to the great geo-ecological shock of industrialization. But it must redeploy the imperative of protecting society in a new direction\, one that acknowledges the solidarity of social groups with their environments in a world transformed by climate change. \nPierre Charbonnier\, Abondance et liberté\, La Découverte\, 2020 \nThe Guest Seminar Series is organized collectively by the CSI PhD students. It is open upon registration. \nGuest seminar programme \nRegistration: please fill out this form

SUMMARY:Seminar "Analysis of online participation” with Benjamin Loveluck
\n“The little cat is dead. Numerical dimensions of a mobilization linked to the animal cause”. \nArticles : \nBientôt disponibles \nThe seminar aims to develop current reflections about the use of digital data in the analysis of online practices and forms of participation. With the explosion of online communication\, a richer and greater amount of information has become available to researchers to document practices in a variety of domains: consumption\, political behavior\, production of knowledge\, sociability\, democratic participation\, controversy\, etc. Evidence of practices and of communication occurring in these domains are now available on various media: forum\, discussions lists\, blogs\, online press\, social networks\, dedicated exchange platforms\, etc. Over the last few years\, the use of these data for research purposes has become widespread but there is still little debate on the compilation of corpora\, the methods of analysis and the articulation between digital analyses and more classical fieldwork in social science. \nWe hope to have the pleasure of seeing you at this session\, and invite you to register here to receive the text and the zoom login link. \nMore on the seminar  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Mines-Paris PSL's Future of Industry and Labour Chair
DESCRIPTION:The Future of Industry and Labor Chair of Mines-Paris PSL is pleased to invite you to session n°4 of the seminar Autonomy and Responsibility in Organizations:\n  \nKOUMBIT\, a self-management experiment in the digital world  \nSuzy Canivenc\, Teacher-Researcher\, FIT2 Chair \nRegistration is mandatory via the following link: https://forms.gle/FYGdZRubAx8omJzq9 \n \nIf you have any questions\, please contact: : chaire-fit2@mines-paristech.fr \nPresentation of the session: \nKoumbit is a self-managed non-profit organization (NPO) in Quebec\, specialized in hosting and developing websites for social organizations (international cooperation and solidarity organizations\, unions\, activist groups\, environmental\, educational\, artistic and cultural organizations). \nThis organization was the subject of an in-depth study during a post-doctoral internship carried out in 2011\, when the structure had 24 workers and had been in existence for 10 years. From this study was drawn a monograph available on the ARO platform: https://www.la-fabrique.fr/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Koumbit-en-ligne.pdf\n\nLike many self-managed structures\, Koumbit is experimenting with an atypical organizational form that is shaking up our ways of thinking. It advocates a total absence of formal hierarchy in favor of a total sharing of decisions between all members of the association\, whether in terms of work organization\, strategy\, governance or values. Strong principles that give rise to original practices in terms of organization and human resources management\, but which are not without limits. \nPresentation of the seminar : \n\n The Future Chair of Industry and Labor of Mines – Paris Sciences et Lettres organizes a monthly seminar on the rise of autonomy in organizations. The objective of this seminar is to discuss concrete experiences of setting up an organization that favors employee autonomy by analyzing the difficulties encountered\, the impact on operational performance and employee satisfaction\, the construction of “words to say it” … During the first year\, we will focus on companies where different national or professional traditions coexist and on the support of middle management. \n
