SUMMARY:The Transistion Institute 1.5 : 2026 TTI.5 Award for the best study of an environmental controversy
DESCRIPTION:TTI.5 Award for the best study carried out as part of the course \n‘Description of Controversies’ \non an environmental controversy \n  \nAt the close of the 4th TTI.5 Forum\, “Environment\, Science\, and Technology in Foreign Policy Making: Which Science Diplomacy?” The Transition Institute 1.5° will present the TTI.5 Award for the best study of an environmental controversy conducted by Civil Engineering students at Mines Paris-PSL as part of the “Description of Controversies” course. \n  \nFriday\, April 10\, 2026\, at 5:00 p.m.\nÉcole des Mines de Paris\, 60 Bd Saint-Michel\nHenri Poincaré Amphitheater \nOpen to the public upon registration \n  \n\nControversy description projects at Mines Paris – PSL\nThe course Description of Controversies is part of the curriculum for third-year students in the Civil Engineering program at Mines Paris-PSL. This course aims to educate engineering students about the evolution of their professional and civic context. The aim is to introduce them to the uncertain world of scientific and technical research by describing an object: a socio-technical controversy. \nThe topics proposed to the students have the following characteristics: an ongoing controversy\, on a targeted subject (for example: not “GMOs” but “the problems raised by the authorization of the cultivation of a transgenic potato plant which is controversial in a specific period and in a specific territory”)\, involving a diversity of protagonists (scientists\, experts\, jurists\, institutions\, members of parliament\, associations\, etc.)\, for which various sources of information are available (general press\, scientific press\, professional press\, discussion forums\, blogs\, websites\, parliamentary reports\, etc.). \nThe controversy study consists in a case study. A group of students follows a controversy in real time to discover its complexity and singularity. A team of sociologists specializing in the analysis of science and technology supervise the students in the development of a pragmatic and argued empirical point of view. \nThe three projects nominated\n \n“No Net Land Take: A Realistic and Appropriate Goal?” \nIn 2021\, the Climate and Resilience Act set a No Net Land Take (NNLT) target for 2050 following the Citizens’ Climate Convention. Indeed\, land use change prevents carbon sequestration\, reduces biodiversity\, and increases flood risks in a context of increasing extreme weather events. However\, the act’s implementation raises questions and debates\, particularly regarding the definition and measurement of land conversion\, the policy’s compatibility with economic development and housing construction amid tension\, and the legitimacy of a measure that disregards regional specifics. Associations\, local elected officials\, National Assembly and Senate members\, planners\, surveyors\, and researchers… are all mobilizing to make their views heard.\nLire l’article » \n“How should greenhouse gas emissions from livestock farming be accounted for?” \nThe agricultural sector is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions\, and livestock farming is a significant component of this contribution. Livestock primarily emit methane\, a gas with a strong greenhouse effect yet short atmospheric lifespan. A new method for standardizing greenhouse gases\, the Global Warming Potential (GWP)\, has recently been proposed to better account for differences in the timescales of greenhouse gases. However\, climate scientists have raised concerns about its use in New Zealand and Ireland to advocate for “no additional warming” methane reduction targets\, which would exempt the livestock sector from emission reduction efforts. These debates are taking place against the backdrop of international commitments to reduce methane\, including the 2021 Global Methane Pledge\, as well as tensions surrounding scientific research on the climate impacts of livestock farming. How should the impact of livestock farming on the climate be measured? Which greenhouse gases should be prioritized for reduction? What are the challenges and implications of the various greenhouse gas accounting methods?\nLire l’article » \nThe 2030 Winter Olympics: An Absurdity or a Windfall for the Green Transition? \nAs the chapter on the Paris 2024 Olympics winds down\, the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) selection of France’s bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics has sparked reactions and controversy. Opponents of the project criticize the lack of public consultation and express concern about the financial impact of the Games. Above all\, however\, the environmental issue lies at the heart of the debate\, particularly the question of artificial snowmaking. Are these games an ecological aberration\, or do they present an opportunity to finance the transition of mountain regions?\nLire l’article » \n

SUMMARY:We are pleased to announce that Simon Reif (ZEW) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar.
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Simon Reif (ZEW) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Wednesday\, April 15\, 2026 at 4 PM in Salle Chevalier. \nSimon will present his paper: \nMarket Entry of Digital Health Providers after the Introduction of a New Reimbursement Pathway \n(with Rebecca Janßen and Sabrina Schubert) \n  \nDigital therapeutics are increasingly used to complement traditional health care. In a pioneering move\, Germany became the first country to introduce a structured regulatory framework — known as the DiGA scheme — that enables developers of digital therapeutics to be reimbursed in the statutory health insurance system. Our study evaluates the impact of this novel regulation on the development and market entry of patient-centered digital health applications. Using a panel dataset of app availability by language and month from the Apple App Store\, covering the period from January 2018 to September 2021\, we compare trends in health app availability in German to those in other languages. Applying event study designs and a set of synthetic control methods\, we find that the DiGA regulation likely stimulated the development of German-language digital therapeutics in the app market. While the number of apps increased\, our results suggest that neither the diversity of health conditions targeted nor the number of high-quality apps expanded significantly. To the contrary\, the increase was almost exclusively driven by apps that sell patient data for advertisement. This suggests that the initial enthusiasm surrounding the new reimbursement pathway did not translate into a broad increase in high quality apps with strong data privacy protections. Further research is needed to assess the longer-term effects on innovation and quality\, especially as other countries begin to adopt regulatory frameworks inspired by the German model. \n  \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join lunch/dinner with Simon before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here.

SUMMARY:The Bauhaus des Transitions is pleased to invite you to a new seminar:
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Bauhaus des Transitions is pleased to invite you to a new seminar: \n  \n “Thinking Differently to Navigate Transitions” \n  \nSave the date ! \nWednesday\, April 22\, 2026\nFrom 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.\n  \nAt Mines Paris-PSL \n60 Boulevard Saint-Michel  \n75006 Paris \n  \nRegister \nRegistration is available upon request from one of the organizers. \nWe are pleased to invite you to a new “utopia studio” at the Bauhaus of Transitions\, which kicks off a series of seminars dedicated to design models for transitions.  \n  \nContemporary transitions—environmental\, territorial\, industrial\, and digital—call for new models of action to enable the creation of desirable transformations. Traditional tools—whether regulatory\, economic\, or based on radical changes to ecosystems—struggle to support transformative collective action.  \n Yet inspiring initiatives are emerging today to develop these capacities for action. They draw on innovative approaches\, featuring unexpected forms of creativity and support for committed actors\, which\, at the same time\, reveal the unknowns inherent in transitions. Here we discover a new form of design that relies on levers of preservative creation\, capable of reshaping existing systems through ripple effects. \n  \nThe aim of this seminar is therefore to explore these new models for designing action in times of transition\, to share and examine them\, and to draw lessons from them in order to encourage their adoption by other stakeholders. This seminar is designed to serve as a space for reflection and collaborative work on this topic.   \n  \nFirst seminar \n“Designing to amplify the ‘humming bird effect’: a new approach to rural transition”  \n  \nThe first seminar will focus on innovative approaches to regional transformation aimed at addressing healthcare deserts and food deserts\, drawing on the experience of Pascal Rigo\, an entrepreneur and project manager at the GIP “Les Entreprises s’engagent\,” in collaboration with Bouge Ton Coq\, an organization dedicated to revitalizing local communities. territoires.  \n  \nSeminar Program (tentative):   \n1) Testimonials and shared experiences from Pascal Rigo and Bouge Ton Coq. \n2) Analysis and scientific perspectives on these mechanisms of action. \n3) Discussions and collective reflection on the implications for action in transitions transitions \n \nThe Bauhaus of Transitions is a research and teaching chair at Mines Paris – PSL that aims to develop new capacities for collective action to address the uncertainties of transitions. \n   \nRegister \nRegistration is available upon request from one of the organizers. \nOrganization and contacts: \nMarion Deshoulières (marion.deshoulieres@minesparis.psl.eu)  \nChipten Valibhay (chipten.valibhay@minesparis.psl.eu \n  \nPractical Information\nDate: April 22\, 2026\, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. \nLocation: Mines Paris – PSL\, 60 Boulevard Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris  \n

SUMMARY:CERNA Research Seminar will welcome Maximilian Schaefer (IMT)
DESCRIPTION:Dear all\, \nWe are pleased to announce that Maximilian Schaefer (IMT) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Thursday (not Wednesday this time) May 7\, 2026 at 4 PM in Salle Chevalier. \nMax will present his paper: \nGenerative AI and the Division of Labor in Knowledge Work \nOpen source development is a key input to collective innovation and production of digital commons. Generative AI coding assistants are reshaping how developers write and maintain code\, while major digital firms have expanded their open source footprint\, altering the balance between corporate and community participation. This paper studies how the release of ChatGPT-3.5 in November 2022 modified the patterns of open-source activity and whether these changes differed between institutional (firm-linked) and independent developers. Using data on 1M GitHub developers and their activity on the platform\, we classify contributors as institutional or independent and estimate a difference-in-differences model with two-way fixed effects. We find that public open source activity declines after the AI shock\, as measured by the number of public repositories per developer\, while surviving projects tend to be of higher quality: they receive more stars\, are more likely to be outgoing forks\, and show higher contribution volumes. Institutional developers reduce their public footprint more intensely but experience larger gains in visibility and quality. \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join dinner with Max before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here

SUMMARY:Abundance and dependence\, extraction and restriction.
DESCRIPTION:Photo credit: Alexander Stielau. Energie. CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 \n\n\n\n\n\nThe context of the war in Iran is once again shining a spotlight on Western countries’ energy dependencies\, even as the debates on sufficiency launched four years ago at the start of the war in Ukraine appear to have had only limited impact on consumption patterns. These complex effects of resource supply tensions on consumption are also illustrated by other recent events\, beyond energy issues per se. For instance the spectre of fertiliser shortages linked to the disruption of international trade is reinforcing growing long-term concerns about food sovereignty in a country like France\, which used to see itself as a major agricultural nation. The North-South inequalities underpinning the consumption of a whole range of products (coffee\, palm oil\, soya\, but also carbon offsetting\, etc.) can be ignored less and less as the political underpinnings of the construction of transnational supply chains become visible. To what extent do these phenomena challenge the contemporary analysis of the link between consumption and the markets that sustain it? \nTaking stock of the renewed focus on tensions within resource supply chains and their effects on consumption\, the seminar aims to foster dialogue between two academic strands concerned with the connections between the worlds of production and everyday consumption\, and their political implications: the theory of practices and the social study of markets. \nPractice theory and the sociology of markets share a common commitment to the empirical grounding of their work and the importance accorded to materiality\, moving away from the symmetrical programmatic monoliths of structures  \n\n\n \n\n\nversus the individual. Much work within the theory of practices has focused on sustainable consumption and has shown how the very nature of practices—far more than individual choices\, their synchronisation and their interconnections—explains levels of consumption of water\, energy and digital services\, for example\, and creates collective dependencies that are highly resistant to attempts at change. The concept of ‘demand’ (for energy\, water\, materials\, land\, etc.)\, often invoked by public policymakers and industry\, has\, from this perspective\, been the subject of in-depth examination\, revealing that it is an ‘outcome’ of social practices rather than a starting point (Rinkinen\, Shove and Marsden\, 2020). ‘Demand’ has also been of interest to market sociology\, which\, through numerous case studies\, has highlighted the circular relationship it maintains with supply. Viewed from this perspective and situated within the context of an economy based on mass consumption\, green consumption appears\, at first glance\, to be ineffective in addressing environmental challenges (Dubuisson-Quellier\, 2022). Research on political consumption\, and ‘contested’ or ‘concerned’ markets\, has shown how consumption is embedded in collective dynamics\, conflicts and negotiations that extend beyond the mere completion of transactions\, and conversely\, how these can sometimes also serve as instruments of governance. \nThis seminar invites an open discussion on these issues. We will invite two specialists\, Elizabeth Shove and Sophie Dubuisson-Quellier\, to share their views before opening the floor for comments and discussion.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDubuisson-Quellier\, Sophie. 2022. « How does affluent consumption come to consumers? SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’ \nsession #13 \n Flying with the flow: The evolving landscape of maintenance \nat airport facilities \n  \n  \nwith Céline Ciman and Hubert Fontanel-Ngo\, Aéroport de Paris Real Estate Division \n  \nWhen it opened in 1961\, Orly Airport amazed the public as a ‘future made real’\, in the words of urban planner Nathalie Roseau. Half a century later\, the airport is welcoming the new Cœur d’Orly walkway: a high-tech structure with a futuristic design whose seamless steel tubes rise to the challenges of strength\, lightness and durability. \nBeyond the symbol of modernity turned towards an unchanging horizon\, how can structures be made to last when they evolve in response to the flow and intensification of use? How is the transition negotiated from projects that combine innovation and technical sophistication to practical concerns about their maintainability\, and with whom? \n  \nParticipation is free but registration is required. SUMMARY:Seminar: Industrial Adventures with Marc Prikazsky\, CEO of Ceva Santé Animale
DESCRIPTION:In 1999\, Sanofi sold its animal health and nutrition businesses\, and fourteen executives acquired a portion of them to create Ceva Santé Animale through a management buyout (MBO). Eight years later\, Ceva’s management and employees became majority shareholders\, enabling them to launch a long-term initiative: promoting animal health and beyond\, given that 70% of human infections originate from animals. Ceva has become the leading French animal health company and the fifth-largest globally\, with a presence in 47 countries\, 21 R&D centers\, and 32 production sites. It specializes in three key areas: biology (vaccines)\, pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals (medicines and therapeutic treatments)\, and equipment designed to ensure the quality of vaccination. It is developing expertise in three areas: biology (vaccines)\, pharmacy and biopharmacy (medicines and therapeutic treatments)\, and equipment to ensure the quality of vaccination. Preventive solutions now exist to control zoonotic diseases in domestic animals and even wildlife\, but much remains to be done to engage public authorities in this One Health approach. \nFree registration – Registration closes on Thursday\, June 18\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m. \nRegistration \n

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’\nsession #14 \nMaintaining after disaster\, beyond destabilization \n  \nwith Nicola Delon\, Encore Heureux Architectes \n  \nAs a major destabilizing force\, a disaster takes various forms that reveal fragilities and vulnerabilities\, but also interdependencies and potential sources of solidarity. \nWhile “rebuilding” has long been the watchword in the aftermath of disasters experienced as exceptional events\, the new climate regime and multiplication of ecological crises are disrupting this restoration mechanism. Beyond architecture’s restorative ambitions\, how can continuities be established and the multiple temporalities of a world whose habitability is threatened be navigated? \nFor the fourteenth session\, the Maintaining seminar will explore the boundaries of maintenance through a dual movement proposed by Nicola Delon\, a partner and co-founder of Encore Heureux Architectes. The seminar will examine disaster through the agency’s experience in Mayotte\, a territory partially devastated by Cyclone Chido in December 2024. The seminar will also address disaster as a situation architects must deal with\, as demolition operations abound and the question of what to save from the remains becomes increasingly urgent. \n  \n\nParticipation is free but registration is required. Please register here.\nAttendance is limited. Kindly let us know if you are unable to attend. \nThe seminar will be held in French. \n  \nFind out more about the seminar program and objectives.

SUMMARY:SESSION POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE Seminar on Innovation Management Nicolas PIERRON Directeur Director of Van Rysel
DESCRIPTION:THE SESSION ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 24 HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE \n  \nDecathlon has been manufacturing and selling bicycles since 1986; the brand was originally known as Decathlon Cycle\, then as Btwin starting in 1999. After Btwin’s first foray into professional cycling in 2007 with AG2R\, the company launched Van Rysel in 2019\, a brand dedicated to performance. Led by Nicolas Pierron\, a former sales associate who became project manager in 2017\, Van Rysel is designed as an accessible premium offering. Starting from scratch\, we had to come up with a meaningful name and design high-end products capable of competing at the highest level\, while also remaining accessible to amateur customers. We also had to find the best global partners to collaborate on technical design\, invest in communications and marketing\, and develop a sales strategy. Since its launch\, the Van Rsyel project has outperformed the Group’s overall performance. It is gaining popularity among the general public\, while the brand is enjoying success among professionals. \n  \nRemote participation is reserved for subscribers and members of our sponsors and partners; please send a request to Mathieu Degoul   \n

SUMMARY:« MAINTENIR BÂTIR » Study Days
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nLong overlooked within the field of architecture\, maintenance activities now appear to be taking on new significance. The accelerating climate crisis and growing awareness of the construction sector’s significant contribution to it are gradually shifting the focus of architecture towards existing buildings\, making it essential to work with them. From routine maintenance to rehabilitation\, the age-old art of ‘making structures — and materials — last’ is regaining prestige and\, above all\, ecological\, economic\, aesthetic and political relevance.  \n\n\nConceived as a follow-up to the seminar ‘MAINTAINING. Architecture and Maintenance\,’ these international and interdisciplinary study days provide an opportunity to examine in detail the role of maintenance in the life of the built environment\, to challenge the apparent rigidity of the separation between design and maintenance\, and to revisit the sometimes long-standing presence of maintenance in architecture\, in both theory and in educational practice.  \n\n\n  \n  \nFeaturing\, in order of appearance\, presentations by:\nS. Le Garrec\, M. Serre\, P. Landauer\, P. Dufour\, P. Lefebvre\, J. Souviron\, Sarah Nichols\, B. Gaussuin\, M-J. Dumont\, T. Abenia\, R. Calzado Lopez\, M. Darrieus\, A. Wilson. \nAnd posters of the current theses by:\nS. Amighetti\, P. Dubois\, L. I. Ehrler\, E. Floret and M. S. Kocyigit. \n  \nOrganizing Committee: Jérôme Denis\, Melis Selin Kocyigit and Sonia Samadi \n\nMonday\, July 6\, from 1:45 pm to 6:00 pm – Tuesday\, July 7\, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm \nThe event will be held in French. \n  \nRegistration is free and required \nPlease fill out the registration form \n\n\n  \nDownload the program

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’\nsession #15 \nSocial housing: the right to maintenance \n  \nwith David Mégrier and Christophe Lheureux\, from the Operations Department of the Immobilière 3F Group. \n  \nIn the public space\, social housing buildings seem to be caught between the abstract moments of their inauguration and their rehabilitation — or even “urban renewal\,” which is still all too often synonymous with demolition and reconstruction. In the time between these momentous events\, ordinary material life is out of the spotlight of news headlines and politics. \nIt is in the hands of social housing providers\, who are at the forefront of implementing a “right to maintenance”—a right that requires them to deal with wear and tear on materials and\, at times\, recalcitrant usages\, even as their resources have been steadily dwindling. How can they continue to ensure the daily maintenance of common and private areas under the best possible conditions? How can they balance rehabilitation and maintenance without focusing solely on energy-efficient renovations? \n  \nParticipation is free but registration is required. Please register here.\nAttendance is limited. Kindly let us know if you are unable to attend. \nThe seminar will be held in French. \n  \nFind out more about the seminar program and objectives.

SUMMARY:Upcoming Seminar: Industrial Adventures of the School of Paris
DESCRIPTION:The École de Paris du management is pleased to invite you to the September session of the “Aventures industrielles” seminar\, organized with the support of the UIMM and La Fabrique de l’industrie: \nEmotion and Reason in the Governance \nof Family Businesses familiales\nby\nGérard HIRIGOYEN \nProfessor Emeritus\, University of Bordeaux \nTuesday\, September 22\, 2026 \nfrom 5:30 p.m. (sharp) to 7:30 p.m. \nà Mines Paris – 60\, boulevard Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris\nRegistration \n(remote participation is possible) \nBrief introduction :\nTo assert their distinctiveness\, SMEs and mid-sized companies need long-term governance\, but this is no easy task when they depend on funds whose horizon is limited to five or seven years: choices must be explained to them in often quantified terms\, whereas long-term projects are more akin to a bet that is difficult to quantify in terms of probability. This is why family businesses have an advantage: they naturally take a long-term view because the future of the company is also the future of generations to come. The emotional dimension of family relationships and the rational dimension of management combine to enable remarkable ventures. But the emotional can go astray: disagreements\, or even jealousies\, can become serious handicaps. Gérard Hirigoyen\, whose work on family businesses is widely referenced\, will illustrate the virtues and pitfalls of the relationship between the rational and the emotional\, and how family charters can help mitigate these risks. \nTo learn about the other sessions of the École de Paris\, you can consult the general agenda on our website.: www.ecole.org/fr/agenda \n

SUMMARY:Séminar Polytechnique Santé #13
DESCRIPTION:The Polytechnique-Santé group proposes\, through a series of seminars\, to explore the following question: Will health prevention be algorithmic?\nThe use of algorithms is part of the medicine of tomorrow\, making it more personalized\, predictive\, participatory\, and preventative. In terms of prevention\, research projects\, experiments\, and initiatives have been launched based on this observation in fields as diverse as the occurrence of epidemic crises\, personalized monitoring of at-risk individuals\, and improving individual behaviors to delay dependency. Promising avenues are emerging at the individual and local levels\, as well as at the national and international levels. At the same time\, as the subject is relatively recent\, several questions remain open. The choice of models and the type of data collected are among them. Similarly\, impacts are beginning to be perceived on the type of insurance coverage\, economic models\, and\, more generally\, lifestyles that such a development may entail. These impacts deserve to be explored.Le groupe Polytechnique-Santé se propose à travers une série de séminaires d’explorer la question suivante : La prévention en santé sera-t-elle algorithmique ? \n\nSéminaire Polytechnique Santé #13 : Programme\n  \n7:00 – 7:30 pm | Participant welcome \n  \n7:30 – 9:00 pm | Seminar led by Prof. Étienne Minvielle\, Professor at École polytechnique\, CNRS Research Director\, and Public Health Physician at Gustave Roussy \n  \n\nTalk by Éric Labaye\, Chairman and Co-founder of IDEL Partners\nTalk by Joachim Henkel\, Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM)\, actively involved at the European level\n\n  \n9:00– 10 pm | Cocktail \nAn informal gathering to continue the discussions and encourage networking among participants. \nMeeting location: PariSanté Campus \n2 – 10 Rue d’Oradour-sur-Glane\, 75015 Paris \nTo register\, click on the link
