SUMMARY:The CSI Guests Seminar welcomes Lucile Ruault (Cermes3)
DESCRIPTION:The CSI Guests Seminar welcome \nLucile Ruault \n  \nto discuss her book \nLe spéculum\, la canule et le miroir \nAvorter au MLAC\, une histoire entre féminisme et médecine \n \nIntroduction to the discussion by Lauranne Chaignon and Mariam Beaure d’Augères \nQuatrième de couverture : La promulgation de la loi relative à l’IVG en 1975 est un retournement majeur dans l’histoire des femmes: l’État parvient enfin à réguler la pratique abortive. \nThe speculum\, the cannula and the mirror. Abortion at the MLAC: A History of Feminism and Medicine. \nThe passing of the French abortion law in 1975 marked a significant milestone in women’s history\, as the state finally succeeded in regulating abortion. By making the procedure the exclusive prerogative of doctors\, the ‘Veil Law’ restored order. It brought to a close a phase in which ordinary women had claimed ownership of knowledge about abortion. But how can we explain the swift end to this possibility at a time when women were on the verge of taking control over abortion? \nIn an attempt to shed light on this enigma\, Lucile Ruault focuses on the Mouvement pour la liberté de l’avortement et de la contraception (MLAC) [Movement for the Freedom of Abortion and Contraception] and\, in particular\, the covert activities of dissident groups who continued to perform abortions until 1984. This historical ethnography demonstrates that the establishment of abortion as a health issue was contentious\, and brings together the medicalisation of abortion and resistance to this process through lay abortion practices in a feminist sense. \nLucile Ruault\, Le spéculum\, la canule et le miroir. SUMMARY:Arpentage & Ecriture. STS Writing Workshop #5
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nRegistration: Please register here. \nTo receive updates\, subscribe to the “Arpentage et Écriture” newsletter here. \nThe workshop is held in French. \nThe workshop aims to provide a welcoming space for young researchers of all disciplinary backgrounds who are interested in the study of science and technology in France. The workshop offers a forum for discussion based on group readings\, fundamental concept discussions\, and STS writing practices. \nThe workshop is organized around two primary activities: \nCollective Reading and Analysis (Exploration /Arpentage) \nMost sessions involve exploring a reference text or recent publication in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). This approach begins with dividing a book or collection of articles into equal parts to facilitate collective exploration. During the first part of the session\, participants read and take notes on different topics\, such as theoretical concepts and arguments\, links to their research\, empirical examples\, and questions or points of confusion. In the second part of the session\, these notes are shared to build a collective understanding and deepen the discussion around the text and key concepts in the field of STS. \nWriting in the Humanities and Social Sciences \nOne to two sessions per year are dedicated to discussing scientific writing practices: \n– Presenting research findings to respondents or peers.\n– Writing an ethnographic text and constructing a scientific narrative. \nWorkshop #5\nThis session is dedicated to the practice of writing STS. We will take the issues raised by writing PhD dissertation introductions as a specific example. \nWe are pleased to welcome Jeanne Oui\, a CNRS researcher at LISIS\, who will be co-hosting this session. We will be discussing the challenges of writing in the social sciences\, as well as what constitutes an “STS” contribution today. \nIf you are currently writing your PhD dissertation introduction or have just finished it and would like to participate\, we invite you to use this forum to tell us about your writing process and the choices you made. Alternatively\, if you have not yet reached this stage of the writing process\, but would like to submit an introduction to a dissertation you intend to write\, we encourage you to try this writing exercise. You don’t need to worry if the references lack precision\, the formatting is messy\, the writing is imperfect\, or your research is not yet well-established. \nWe therefore encourage you to send us a text\, whether it is a work in progress or complete. Do not hesitate — the workshop aims to provide a welcoming forum in which to discuss work in progress. \nSeminar Details\nThe seminar details are as follows (they will also be sent to participants by email):\n– In-person in Paris at different locations to discover each other’s laboratories and universities\n– Half-day sessions (four hours\, including a snack break)\n– Two types of sessions: Reading Workshop: Theory\, Concepts\, Methodology and Writing Workshop: Analysis\, Writing\, Fieldwork\n– No work is required beforehand. Reading is done on site collectively using methods such as arpentage\, which explains the extended duration of the sessions.\n– A friendly atmosphere: we suggest sharing a meal after each session. \nWorkshop Organizers and Facilitators\nAurélien Béranger – PhD Candidate\, Laboratoire Costech\, Université de Technologie de Compiègne.\nEmail: aurelien.beranger@utc.fr \nDorian Groll – PhD Candidate\, Centre Maurice Halbwachs\, CAK.\nEmail: dorian.groll@ens.psl.eu \nAlexia Pronesti – PhD Candidate\, GSPR & Cermes3\, EHESS.\nEmail: alexia.pronesti@ehess.fr \nSolène Sarnowski – PhD Candidate\, Centre de Sociologie de l’Innovation (CSI)\, Mines Paris & Télécom-Paris\, Institut Polytechnique de Paris\, NOS.\nEmail: solene.sarnowski@minesparis.psl.eu \n  \n  \n\nLearn more about the 2025-2026 Program for the seminar ‘Arpentage & Écriture: STS Reading Workshop’.

SUMMARY:Ignorance\, the Unknown and Creation in Democracy - Théâtre de la Concorde
DESCRIPTION:By the Bauhaus des Transitions at Mines Paris PSL\, in partnership with ILExpansions \n\nAt the Théâtre de la Concorde\, we believe that democracy is not built solely on the accumulation of knowledge\, but also on the way in which a society recognises\, organises and explores what it does not yet know. At a time when ignorance is often reduced to a deficit to be filled or a threat to be combated\, this meeting proposes to make it an object of scientific\, political and creative reflection. How can we think of the unknown as an active condition for democratic action?Hosted by Ana Semedo and organised by Mines Paris – PSL\, this round table brings together researchers\, teachers and design professionals to examine contemporary forms of ignorance and the unknown in our societies. \nDescription\n\nHosted by Ana Semedo and organised by Mines Paris – PSL\, this round table brings together researchers\, teachers and design professionals to examine contemporary forms of ignorance and the unknown in our societies. \nFar from pitting enlightened knowledge against ignorance\, the discussion draws on scientific research and design practice to show that many human activities operate precisely in the unknown. Fundamental research\, artistic creation\, engineering\, teaching and collective design are often developed on the basis of partial knowledge\, hypotheses under construction and collectively explored imaginaries. Fundamental research\, artistic creation\, engineering\, teaching\, and collective design are often developed based on partial knowledge\, hypotheses under construction\, and collectively explored ideas. \nRecent scientific advances have made it possible to better characterise what it means to “think in the unknown”. We can now provide a formal definition\, study its properties and structure – thereby extending the notion of “truth” or “the known” – and show that there are cognitive mechanisms specific to reasoning in the unknown. \nThe discussions will draw on several disciplines: mathematics\, cognitive science\, psychology of creativity\, management science and design science\, in order to understand how individuals and groups explore the unknown\, with what biases\, what tools and what forms of organisation. This work therefore opens up avenues for overcoming the dilemma between a democratic life based on the assumption of decisions informed by omniscient expertise\, and decisions based on common sense\, which we know to be limited and fragile. It will also be necessary to examine the tensions inherent in these new exploration capabilities\, between democratic openness\, risks associated with the unknown\, power asymmetries and technocratic temptations. \nBy combining academic research\, professional practices and civic reflection\, this event is part of the Théâtre de la Concorde’s project to foster dialogue between scientific knowledge and public debate\, in order to collectively consider how our societies can learn\, decide and innovate in the face of the unknown. \nWith: \n\nAnne Asensio\, Vice President of Design Experience\, Dassault Systèmes\nOlivia Caramello\, Associate Professor\, University of Insubria (Como)\, Mathematics\nMathieu Cassotti\, Professor\, Paris Cité University\, Developmental Psychology and Creativity\nPascal Le Masson\, Professor\, Mines Paris – PSL\, Management and Design Sciences\nChipten Valibhay\, Lecturer-Researcher\, Mines Paris – PSL\, Management and Design Sciences\nModerator Ana Semedo\n\nIn partnership with the Bauhaus des Transitions – Mines Paris PSL\, teaching and research chair. \nFor registration

SUMMARY:Seminar #12 How can we ensure the scaling up of digital innovations?
DESCRIPTION:Seminar serie\n \nWill health prevention become algorithmic? \n  \nSeminar # 12 \nHow can we ensure the scaling up of digital innovations?\n  \nFebruary 17\, 2026\, 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.\n  \n Location to be specified later\nWith artificial intelligence\, innovations are flourishing. Brilliant ideas\, convincing proofs of concept\, successful fundraising… but few manage to convert the try. \nThe transition from a promising solution to large-scale deployment\, and ultimately to a commercial product that is actually used\, often remains the most delicate stage. \nBased on the experience of Volta Medical\, presented by one of its co-founders\, Théophile Morh Durdez\, this issue will be discussed with two leading speakers\, recognized for their operational expertise on these issues: Nicolas Castoldi and Professor Patrick Jourdain. \nVolta Medical is a Marseille-based MedTech company that develops and markets AI software to assist rhythmologists in the operating room and improve the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias\, which affect between 600\,000 and 1 million people in France. Founded in 2016\, the company is now present in hospitals in Europe and the United States and is continuing its international expansion. \n  \nWith contributions from:\n🔹 Théophile Mohr Durdez\, co-founder of Volta Medical\n🔹 Nicolas Castoldi\, Director of Innovation at AP-HP\, Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris\n🔹 Prof. Patrick Jourdain\, Medical Director at Ramsay GDS \nFree registration but mandatory \nLocation: Amphithéâtre Dupuytren – Hôtel-Dieu \n 1 Parvis Notre-Dame\, 75004 Paris

SUMMARY:Cerna seminar wil welcome El Hadi Caoui (Toronto)
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that El Hadi Caoui (Toronto) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Wednesday\, February 18\, 2026 at 4 PM in Salle Vendome. \nHadi will present his paper: \nEstimating Consumer Preferences for LLMs: Evidence from LMArena \nThis paper studies product differentiation in the consumer market for large language models (LLMs) using data from randomized pairwise comparisons of LLM responses. I estimate a differentiated-product demand model in which consumer taste parameters vary with prompt embeddings. Perceived LLM quality is strongly associated with an LLM’s benchmark performance\, context window size\, and reasoning ability. Taste heterogeneity across consumers is significant and arises primarily over the stylistic and syntactic features of responses (e.g.\, readability\, verbosity\, tone\, and formatting)\, along which LLMs systematically differ. Counterfactual analysis shows that\, between 2024 and 2025\, consumer surplus per user increased by 38%–54% (equivalently\, $37.4–$52.9 per user-month). For the average user\, improvements in model intelligence account for 61\% of this welfare gain\, with an even larger share for technical tasks (71% for coding). \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join lunch/dinner with Hadi before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Industrial Adventures Seminar: French watchmaking: the genesis of a revival
DESCRIPTION:Heir to exceptional expertise\, the French watchmaking industry was one of the world’s great pioneers in the measurement of time. However\, this historic prestige almost fell into oblivion. The industry’s production base was decimated by a series of crises\, from the revocation of the Edict of Nantes\, which led to the exile of Protestant watchmakers to Switzerland\, to the wave of deindustrialization in the 1970s\, exacerbated by the quartz revolution. The watchmaking industry gradually transformed into an assembly industry dependent on foreign countries. But in recent years\, an unexpected revival has begun. Faced with a new crisis\, that of Covid-19\, the industry has decided to take back control of its destiny. It is through entrepreneurial drive\, with an unprecedented mobilization of academic models of innovation management\, that the reindustrialization of French watchmaking has come about. \n  \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n Sandrine Marcot\n \n \n \n \n \n Tony Da Motta \n \n \n\nRegistration  \nRegistration closes on Thursday\, February 19\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m. \n

SUMMARY:CERNA Research Seminar will welcome Antoine Dechezlepretre
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Antoine Dechezlepretre (OECD) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Wednesday\, March18\, 2026 at 4:30 PM in Amphi L109. \n  \nAntoine’s talk will be embedded into this year’s JDD edition and will also serve as the JDD’s keynote. You’ll receive more info on the JDD and the program soon in a separate email. \n  \nAntoine will present his paper: \n  \nThe Great Dispersion in Energy Productivity Between Firms: Evidence from Representative Data for Nine Countries \n  \nThis paper explores the differences between firms’ energy productivity using representative microdata for nine countries. It documents wide dispersion in energy productivity across firms within narrowly defined industries. On average\, the 90th percentile firm is 20 times more energy productive than the 10th percentile firm in the same industry\, compared with five times for labour productivity. There is no sign that dispersion is narrowing down over time. Addressing this dispersion could have major implications: for example\, raising the energy productivity of the least productive firms to that of the 25th percentile firm in their industry would reduce aggregate energy consumption (and associated emissions) by almost half for the same level of output. Machine learning and regression methods reveal a strong link between economic and energy efficiency. Higher energy prices\, stronger competition\, better access to finance and greater innovation activity also explain dispersion\, suggesting a role for policies to reduce it. \n  \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join lunch/dinner with Antoine before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here. \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Maintaining. Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:Seminar ‘Maintaining. Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’\nsession #10 \nInert but under surveillance – Fragile concrete  \n  \nChristophe Batard\, Heritage Architect (2BDM Agency) \nand Raphaël Royer-de-Vericourt\, Architect-Engineer (T/E/S/S)\nDiscussant: Martin Denoun (SPIRAL\, Liège) \n  \nLong presented as an inert\, solid\, and durable material\, concrete conveyed a promise of stability that contributed to its widespread use throughout the 20th century\, but also to the decline of a culture of maintenance that was negatively associated with “traditional” materials. Paradoxically\, this ubiquitous material still provides limited insight into building life cycles. As buildings age\, the diversity and complexity of deterioration — carbonation\, cracking\, and corrosion of reinforcements — becomes apparent. These processes intertwine a multitude of parameters\, including construction periods and methods\, initial imperfections\, maintenance defects\, and exposure environment. \nFrom proclaimed inertia to material “under surveillance\,” the trajectories of aging and emerging forms of intervention to repair\, restore\, and extend the life of buildings are shaping a new field of reflection and knowledge production at the intersection of architecture and maintenance. \n  \nDate: Friday March 20\, 2026\, 10 am –1 pm \nVenue: Mines-Paris PSL\, 60 bd Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris\, room L117 \nParticipation is free but registration is required. SUMMARY:Séminaire Aventures industrielles avec Arnaud Haefelin\, PDG de Gainerie 91
DESCRIPTION:  \nCombining luxury\, innovation\, and sustainability: \nthe ambitions of Gainerie 91 \nby \nArnaud HAEFELIN\nCEO of Gainerie 91 \nGainerie 91\, a leather goods company founded in 1967\, was taken over in 2001 by Arnaud Haefelin\, who expanded its scope of activity and embarked on its internationalization. Its mission is to enhance luxury brands by offering them attractive and eco-friendly packaging. It controls the entire process from design to delivery\, including manufacturing\, where others subcontract. With more than 600 artisans\, four factories in France\, Mauritius\, China\, and Portugal\, and certified as a Living Heritage Company in 2012\, it has a solid position with loyal luxury brands. Investing in eco-design and with a materials library of 1\,000 materials validated by life cycle analyses\, it has made sustainability a key part of its strategy. While luxury brands had relocated to reduce costs\, we are now seeing a reversal of this trend\, which Gainerie 91 wants to take advantage of by doubling its production capacity in France. \n  \nTo register for the session\, click here \n\n

SUMMARY:The CSI Guests Seminar welcomes Olivier Alexandre (Centre Internet et Société)
DESCRIPTION:The CSI Guests Seminar welcomes \nOlivier Alexandre \n  \nto discuss his book \nLa Tech \nQuand la Silicon Valley refait le monde \n \nIntroduction to the discussion by Orso Roger and Guilhaum Panas \nQuatrième de couverture : La Silicon Valley\, cœur battant des nouvelles technologies\, rythme le quotidien de milliards d’individus. \nTech : When Silicon Valley reshapes the world \nBack cover: Silicon Valley is the beating heart of new technologies and sets the pace for the daily lives of billions of people. It has transformed the way we communicate\, keep up to date\, work\, enjoy entertainment\, and experience love. Its companies are at the forefront of media attention\, with technological breakthroughs\, financial markets and court cases. From space exploration to quantum computing\, its engineers are pushing the boundaries of the infinitely large and small. Its scientists are planning to conquer death and create machines that surpass humans. \nThis book offers an immersive insight into a world that even inspires Hollywood\, yet remains relatively unknown. Rather than focusing solely on the big names\, it depicts the journeys\, mindsets and methods of the people who battle daily within a hyper-selective system to attract investors\, hire the best developers and find solutions that will change the world. \nFrom Burning Man to anti-tech protests\, it provides an insight into a world of constant revolution\, brimming with both promise and concern for the future. \nOlivier Alexandre\, La Tech. SUMMARY:Seminar on Economics and Meaning
DESCRIPTION:The Paris School of Management invites you to its next session:  \nHotel eco-label:mere display   \nou or a rethinking of practices? \n  \nby \nCaroline PIEL MARTIN-ROUX \nPresident and CEO of Hôtels en Ville \nColombe GUELLERIN\nDeputy CEO of Hôtels en Ville \nPedro GOMES LOPES\nCEO of The Swarm\, PhD candidate in Management Science at i3-CRG  \nTuesday\, March 31\, 2026  \nfrom 5:00 p.m. (sharp) to 7:00 p.m. \nat Mines Paris – 60\, boulevard Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris \n  \nClick here to sign up \nRegistration closes on Tuesday\, March 31\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m \n  \nBrief Overview \nEco-labels are everywhere. In the French hospitality sector\, nearly 20% of establishments have committed to obtaining an eco-label. Does this reflect a genuine shift in practices or merely an attempt to appear more environmentally friendly? The wide variety of these labels\, issued by public or private organizations\, makes it difficult to see the big picture The European Ecolabel\, a public certification program established in 1992\, is distinguished by its high standards and its commitment to eco-design and environmental management. Its implementation encompasses the hotel’s technical systems\, management policies\, employee practices\, and guest behavior. Using the example of the Paris-based Hôtels en Ville collection\, which decided in 2022 to obtain eco-labels for all of its properties\, this session will explore how an eco-label—initially viewed as a compliance requirement—is gradually becoming a framework that shapes the business.  \n  \nTo find out about other sessions at the École de Paris\, please check the general schedule online : www.ecole.org/fr/agenda \n  \n  \nL’École de Paris du management   \n60\, boulevard Saint-Michel – 75272 PARIS CEDEX 06\nTél. : 01 42 79 40 85\nhttp://www.ecole.org \n

DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nThe Business Theory Chair is pleased to invite you \nto its next seminar session. \n« Businesses\, Responsabilities Civilisations »  \n9 April 2026 from 4pm to 6pm\, \nseminar organised in partnership with the Bauhaus Chair of Transitions. \n  \n  \n \nSaint-Simon\, philosopher of industrial society \nwith Pierre Musso\nSeminar organised in partnership with the Bauhaus Chair of Transitions. \nPierre Musso will present the life and work of philosopher Henri Saint-Simon (1760–1825)\, the founder of founders\, with multiple legacies\, from Saint-Simonism to socialism\, from positivism to industrialism. He is the “father” of Saint-Simonism\, but he is also considered one of the founding fathers of socialism (described as a “utopian socialist”)\, liberalism\, positivism\, industrialism\, technocratic or planning doctrines\, etc. How can we explain such enduring influence to this day? P. Musso will highlight how Saint-Simon reflected on the science and industry of his time\, and how he inspired a movement of thought and a political movement known as “industrialism”. How did he mobilise the creative and scientific logic of industry? How is this logic reflected in the trends that his work gave rise to\, particularly among engineers and industrialists? \nPierre MUSSO is an honorary professor at the Universities of Rennes II and Telecom Paris. He is the author of numerous works on Saint-Simon and Saint-Simonism\, network philosophy\, industry and the industrial imagination. His most recent publications are Saint-Simon\, philosophe de la société industrielle (Saint-Simon\, Philosopher of Industrial Society) (2025)\, Le Temps de l’Etat-Entreprise (The Age of the State-Enterprise) (2019) and La religion industrielle (Industrial Religion) (2017)\, published by Fayard. \nRegister (registration required)

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Maintaining. Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:  \n‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’ \nsession #12 \nFrom caring for people to caring for things: \nhospitals\, models of care   \n  \nWith Anabelle Billy\, Director of Construction\, Technical Services\, and Safety (Rouen University Hospital) \n  \nIf there is one place where maintenance is vital\, it is the hospital. Few other buildings have such far-reaching consequences when services are disrupted\, and few structures are as demanding in terms of upkeep. Since the 19th century\, the hospital has become a healing machine — a machine that\, in turn\, must be cared for in order to care for others\, and whose proper functioning depends on constant attention to its flows: people\, equipment\, water\, air\, heat\, medical fluids\, and data. \nHowever\, this continuity should not be taken for granted. It requires the ability to intervene without interrupting and maintain without disrupting within very limited windows of action while constantly adapting maintenance operations to care requirements. \nIn this restricted environment—marked by strict regulatory frameworks\, budgetary constraints\, and constant change—maintenance of existing infrastructure remains largely reactive\, caught between critical emergencies and investment logic that tends to favor replacement and reconstruction. From proclaimed inertia to a material “under observation\,” the trajectories of aging and emerging approaches to repairing\, restoring\, and extending the life of structures are shaping a new field of reflection and knowledge production at the intersection of architecture and maintenance. \n  \n  \nParticipation is free but registration is required. Please register here.\nAttendance is limited. Kindly let us know if you are unable to attend. \nThe seminar will be held in French. \n  \n  \nFind out more about the seminar program and objectives

SUMMARY:The Transistion Institute 1.5 : 2026 TTI.5 Award for the best study of an environmental controversy
DESCRIPTION:TTI.5 Award for the best study carried out as part of the course \n‘Description of Controversies’ \non an environmental controversy \n  \nAt the close of the 4th TTI.5 Forum\, “Environment\, Science\, and Technology in Foreign Policy Making: Which Science Diplomacy?” The Transition Institute 1.5° will present the TTI.5 Award for the best study of an environmental controversy conducted by Civil Engineering students at Mines Paris-PSL as part of the “Description of Controversies” course. \n  \nFriday\, April 10\, 2026\, at 5:00 p.m.\nÉcole des Mines de Paris\, 60 Bd Saint-Michel\nHenri Poincaré Amphitheater \nOpen to the public upon registration \n  \n\nControversy description projects at Mines Paris – PSL\nThe course Description of Controversies is part of the curriculum for third-year students in the Civil Engineering program at Mines Paris-PSL. This course aims to educate engineering students about the evolution of their professional and civic context. The aim is to introduce them to the uncertain world of scientific and technical research by describing an object: a socio-technical controversy. \nThe topics proposed to the students have the following characteristics: an ongoing controversy\, on a targeted subject (for example: not “GMOs” but “the problems raised by the authorization of the cultivation of a transgenic potato plant which is controversial in a specific period and in a specific territory”)\, involving a diversity of protagonists (scientists\, experts\, jurists\, institutions\, members of parliament\, associations\, etc.)\, for which various sources of information are available (general press\, scientific press\, professional press\, discussion forums\, blogs\, websites\, parliamentary reports\, etc.). \nThe controversy study consists in a case study. A group of students follows a controversy in real time to discover its complexity and singularity. A team of sociologists specializing in the analysis of science and technology supervise the students in the development of a pragmatic and argued empirical point of view. \nThe three projects nominated\n \n“No Net Land Take: A Realistic and Appropriate Goal?” \nIn 2021\, the Climate and Resilience Act set a No Net Land Take (NNLT) target for 2050 following the Citizens’ Climate Convention. Indeed\, land use change prevents carbon sequestration\, reduces biodiversity\, and increases flood risks in a context of increasing extreme weather events. However\, the act’s implementation raises questions and debates\, particularly regarding the definition and measurement of land conversion\, the policy’s compatibility with economic development and housing construction amid tension\, and the legitimacy of a measure that disregards regional specifics. Associations\, local elected officials\, National Assembly and Senate members\, planners\, surveyors\, and researchers… are all mobilizing to make their views heard.\nLire l’article » \n“How should greenhouse gas emissions from livestock farming be accounted for?” \nThe agricultural sector is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions\, and livestock farming is a significant component of this contribution. Livestock primarily emit methane\, a gas with a strong greenhouse effect yet short atmospheric lifespan. A new method for standardizing greenhouse gases\, the Global Warming Potential (GWP)\, has recently been proposed to better account for differences in the timescales of greenhouse gases. However\, climate scientists have raised concerns about its use in New Zealand and Ireland to advocate for “no additional warming” methane reduction targets\, which would exempt the livestock sector from emission reduction efforts. These debates are taking place against the backdrop of international commitments to reduce methane\, including the 2021 Global Methane Pledge\, as well as tensions surrounding scientific research on the climate impacts of livestock farming. How should the impact of livestock farming on the climate be measured? Which greenhouse gases should be prioritized for reduction? What are the challenges and implications of the various greenhouse gas accounting methods?\nLire l’article » \nThe 2030 Winter Olympics: An Absurdity or a Windfall for the Green Transition? \nAs the chapter on the Paris 2024 Olympics winds down\, the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) selection of France’s bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics has sparked reactions and controversy. Opponents of the project criticize the lack of public consultation and express concern about the financial impact of the Games. Above all\, however\, the environmental issue lies at the heart of the debate\, particularly the question of artificial snowmaking. Are these games an ecological aberration\, or do they present an opportunity to finance the transition of mountain regions?\nLire l’article » \n

SUMMARY:We are pleased to announce that Simon Reif (ZEW) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar.
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that Simon Reif (ZEW) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Wednesday\, April 15\, 2026 at 4 PM in Salle Chevalier. \nSimon will present his paper: \nMarket Entry of Digital Health Providers after the Introduction of a New Reimbursement Pathway \n(with Rebecca Janßen and Sabrina Schubert) \n  \nDigital therapeutics are increasingly used to complement traditional health care. In a pioneering move\, Germany became the first country to introduce a structured regulatory framework — known as the DiGA scheme — that enables developers of digital therapeutics to be reimbursed in the statutory health insurance system. Our study evaluates the impact of this novel regulation on the development and market entry of patient-centered digital health applications. Using a panel dataset of app availability by language and month from the Apple App Store\, covering the period from January 2018 to September 2021\, we compare trends in health app availability in German to those in other languages. Applying event study designs and a set of synthetic control methods\, we find that the DiGA regulation likely stimulated the development of German-language digital therapeutics in the app market. While the number of apps increased\, our results suggest that neither the diversity of health conditions targeted nor the number of high-quality apps expanded significantly. To the contrary\, the increase was almost exclusively driven by apps that sell patient data for advertisement. This suggests that the initial enthusiasm surrounding the new reimbursement pathway did not translate into a broad increase in high quality apps with strong data privacy protections. Further research is needed to assess the longer-term effects on innovation and quality\, especially as other countries begin to adopt regulatory frameworks inspired by the German model. \n  \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join lunch/dinner with Simon before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here.

SUMMARY:The Bauhaus des Transitions is pleased to invite you to a new seminar:
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Bauhaus des Transitions is pleased to invite you to a new seminar: \n  \n “Thinking Differently to Navigate Transitions” \n  \nSave the date ! \nWednesday\, April 22\, 2026\nFrom 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.\n  \nAt Mines Paris-PSL \n60 Boulevard Saint-Michel  \n75006 Paris \n  \nRegister \nRegistration is available upon request from one of the organizers. \nWe are pleased to invite you to a new “utopia studio” at the Bauhaus of Transitions\, which kicks off a series of seminars dedicated to design models for transitions.  \n  \nContemporary transitions—environmental\, territorial\, industrial\, and digital—call for new models of action to enable the creation of desirable transformations. Traditional tools—whether regulatory\, economic\, or based on radical changes to ecosystems—struggle to support transformative collective action.  \n Yet inspiring initiatives are emerging today to develop these capacities for action. They draw on innovative approaches\, featuring unexpected forms of creativity and support for committed actors\, which\, at the same time\, reveal the unknowns inherent in transitions. Here we discover a new form of design that relies on levers of preservative creation\, capable of reshaping existing systems through ripple effects. \n  \nThe aim of this seminar is therefore to explore these new models for designing action in times of transition\, to share and examine them\, and to draw lessons from them in order to encourage their adoption by other stakeholders. This seminar is designed to serve as a space for reflection and collaborative work on this topic.   \n  \nFirst seminar \n“Designing to amplify the ‘humming bird effect’: a new approach to rural transition”  \n  \nThe first seminar will focus on innovative approaches to regional transformation aimed at addressing healthcare deserts and food deserts\, drawing on the experience of Pascal Rigo\, an entrepreneur and project manager at the GIP “Les Entreprises s’engagent\,” in collaboration with Bouge Ton Coq\, an organization dedicated to revitalizing local communities. territoires.  \n  \nSeminar Program (tentative):   \n1) Testimonials and shared experiences from Pascal Rigo and Bouge Ton Coq. \n2) Analysis and scientific perspectives on these mechanisms of action. \n3) Discussions and collective reflection on the implications for action in transitions transitions \n \nThe Bauhaus of Transitions is a research and teaching chair at Mines Paris – PSL that aims to develop new capacities for collective action to address the uncertainties of transitions. \n   \nRegister \nRegistration is available upon request from one of the organizers. \nOrganization and contacts: \nMarion Deshoulières (marion.deshoulieres@minesparis.psl.eu)  \nChipten Valibhay (chipten.valibhay@minesparis.psl.eu \n  \nPractical Information\nDate: April 22\, 2026\, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. \nLocation: Mines Paris – PSL\, 60 Boulevard Saint-Michel\, 75006 Paris  \n

SUMMARY:CERNA Research Seminar will welcome Maximilian Schaefer (IMT)
DESCRIPTION:Dear all\, \nWe are pleased to announce that Maximilian Schaefer (IMT) will be the next speaker in our CERNA Research Seminar. The seminar will take place Thursday (not Wednesday this time) May 7\, 2026 at 4 PM in Salle Chevalier. \nMax will present his paper: \nGenerative AI and the Division of Labor in Knowledge Work \nOpen source development is a key input to collective innovation and production of digital commons. Generative AI coding assistants are reshaping how developers write and maintain code\, while major digital firms have expanded their open source footprint\, altering the balance between corporate and community participation. This paper studies how the release of ChatGPT-3.5 in November 2022 modified the patterns of open-source activity and whether these changes differed between institutional (firm-linked) and independent developers. Using data on 1M GitHub developers and their activity on the platform\, we classify contributors as institutional or independent and estimate a difference-in-differences model with two-way fixed effects. We find that public open source activity declines after the AI shock\, as measured by the number of public repositories per developer\, while surviving projects tend to be of higher quality: they receive more stars\, are more likely to be outgoing forks\, and show higher contribution volumes. Institutional developers reduce their public footprint more intensely but experience larger gains in visibility and quality. \nThere will be an opportunity to schedule individual meetings and/or join dinner with Max before the seminar. \nPlease enter your preferred time slot here

SUMMARY:Abundance and dependence\, extraction and restriction.
DESCRIPTION:Photo credit: Alexander Stielau. Energie. CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 \n\n\n\n\n\nThe context of the war in Iran is once again shining a spotlight on Western countries’ energy dependencies\, even as the debates on sufficiency launched four years ago at the start of the war in Ukraine appear to have had only limited impact on consumption patterns. These complex effects of resource supply tensions on consumption are also illustrated by other recent events\, beyond energy issues per se. For instance the spectre of fertiliser shortages linked to the disruption of international trade is reinforcing growing long-term concerns about food sovereignty in a country like France\, which used to see itself as a major agricultural nation. The North-South inequalities underpinning the consumption of a whole range of products (coffee\, palm oil\, soya\, but also carbon offsetting\, etc.) can be ignored less and less as the political underpinnings of the construction of transnational supply chains become visible. To what extent do these phenomena challenge the contemporary analysis of the link between consumption and the markets that sustain it? \nTaking stock of the renewed focus on tensions within resource supply chains and their effects on consumption\, the seminar aims to foster dialogue between two academic strands concerned with the connections between the worlds of production and everyday consumption\, and their political implications: the theory of practices and the social study of markets. \nPractice theory and the sociology of markets share a common commitment to the empirical grounding of their work and the importance accorded to materiality\, moving away from the symmetrical programmatic monoliths of structures  \n\n\n \n\n\nversus the individual. Much work within the theory of practices has focused on sustainable consumption and has shown how the very nature of practices—far more than individual choices\, their synchronisation and their interconnections—explains levels of consumption of water\, energy and digital services\, for example\, and creates collective dependencies that are highly resistant to attempts at change. The concept of ‘demand’ (for energy\, water\, materials\, land\, etc.)\, often invoked by public policymakers and industry\, has\, from this perspective\, been the subject of in-depth examination\, revealing that it is an ‘outcome’ of social practices rather than a starting point (Rinkinen\, Shove and Marsden\, 2020). ‘Demand’ has also been of interest to market sociology\, which\, through numerous case studies\, has highlighted the circular relationship it maintains with supply. Viewed from this perspective and situated within the context of an economy based on mass consumption\, green consumption appears\, at first glance\, to be ineffective in addressing environmental challenges (Dubuisson-Quellier\, 2022). Research on political consumption\, and ‘contested’ or ‘concerned’ markets\, has shown how consumption is embedded in collective dynamics\, conflicts and negotiations that extend beyond the mere completion of transactions\, and conversely\, how these can sometimes also serve as instruments of governance. \nThis seminar invites an open discussion on these issues. We will invite two specialists\, Elizabeth Shove and Sophie Dubuisson-Quellier\, to share their views before opening the floor for comments and discussion.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDubuisson-Quellier\, Sophie. 2022. « How does affluent consumption come to consumers? SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’ \nsession #13 \n Flying with the flow: The evolving landscape of maintenance \nat airport facilities \n  \n  \nwith Céline Ciman and Hubert Fontanel-Ngo\, Aéroport de Paris Real Estate Division \n  \nWhen it opened in 1961\, Orly Airport amazed the public as a ‘future made real’\, in the words of urban planner Nathalie Roseau. Half a century later\, the airport is welcoming the new Cœur d’Orly walkway: a high-tech structure with a futuristic design whose seamless steel tubes rise to the challenges of strength\, lightness and durability. \nBeyond the symbol of modernity turned towards an unchanging horizon\, how can structures be made to last when they evolve in response to the flow and intensification of use? How is the transition negotiated from projects that combine innovation and technical sophistication to practical concerns about their maintainability\, and with whom? \n  \nParticipation is free but registration is required. SUMMARY:Seminar: Industrial Adventures with Marc Prikazsky\, CEO of Ceva Santé Animale
DESCRIPTION:In 1999\, Sanofi sold its animal health and nutrition businesses\, and fourteen executives acquired a portion of them to create Ceva Santé Animale through a management buyout (MBO). Eight years later\, Ceva’s management and employees became majority shareholders\, enabling them to launch a long-term initiative: promoting animal health and beyond\, given that 70% of human infections originate from animals. Ceva has become the leading French animal health company and the fifth-largest globally\, with a presence in 47 countries\, 21 R&D centers\, and 32 production sites. It specializes in three key areas: biology (vaccines)\, pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals (medicines and therapeutic treatments)\, and equipment designed to ensure the quality of vaccination. It is developing expertise in three areas: biology (vaccines)\, pharmacy and biopharmacy (medicines and therapeutic treatments)\, and equipment to ensure the quality of vaccination. Preventive solutions now exist to control zoonotic diseases in domestic animals and even wildlife\, but much remains to be done to engage public authorities in this One Health approach. \nFree registration – Registration closes on Thursday\, June 18\, 2026\, at 12:00 p.m. \nRegistration \n

SUMMARY:Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’
DESCRIPTION:Architecture and maintenance\, what we care about’\nsession #14 \nMaintaining after disaster\, beyond destabilization \n  \nwith Nicola Delon\, Encore Heureux Architectes \n  \nAs a major destabilizing force\, a disaster takes various forms that reveal fragilities and vulnerabilities\, but also interdependencies and potential sources of solidarity. \nWhile “rebuilding” has long been the watchword in the aftermath of disasters experienced as exceptional events\, the new climate regime and multiplication of ecological crises are disrupting this restoration mechanism. Beyond architecture’s restorative ambitions\, how can continuities be established and the multiple temporalities of a world whose habitability is threatened be navigated? \nFor the fourteenth session\, the Maintaining seminar will explore the boundaries of maintenance through a dual movement proposed by Nicola Delon\, a partner and co-founder of Encore Heureux Architectes. The seminar will examine disaster through the agency’s experience in Mayotte\, a territory partially devastated by Cyclone Chido in December 2024. The seminar will also address disaster as a situation architects must deal with\, as demolition operations abound and the question of what to save from the remains becomes increasingly urgent. \n  \n\nParticipation is free but registration is required. Please register here.\nAttendance is limited. Kindly let us know if you are unable to attend. \nThe seminar will be held in French. \n  \nFind out more about the seminar program and objectives.

SUMMARY:SESSION POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE Seminar on Innovation Management Nicolas PIERRON Directeur Director of Van Rysel
DESCRIPTION:THE SESSION ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 24 HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE \n  \nDecathlon has been manufacturing and selling bicycles since 1986; the brand was originally known as Decathlon Cycle\, then as Btwin starting in 1999. After Btwin’s first foray into professional cycling in 2007 with AG2R\, the company launched Van Rysel in 2019\, a brand dedicated to performance. Led by Nicolas Pierron\, a former sales associate who became project manager in 2017\, Van Rysel is designed as an accessible premium offering. Starting from scratch\, we had to come up with a meaningful name and design high-end products capable of competing at the highest level\, while also remaining accessible to amateur customers. We also had to find the best global partners to collaborate on technical design\, invest in communications and marketing\, and develop a sales strategy. Since its launch\, the Van Rsyel project has outperformed the Group’s overall performance. It is gaining popularity among the general public\, while the brand is enjoying success among professionals. \n  \nRemote participation is reserved for subscribers and members of our sponsors and partners; please send a request to Mathieu Degoul   \n

SUMMARY:« MAINTENIR BÂTIR » Study Days
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nLong overlooked within the field of architecture\, maintenance activities now appear to be taking on new significance. The accelerating climate crisis and growing awareness of the construction sector’s significant contribution to it are gradually shifting the focus of architecture towards existing buildings\, making it essential to work with them. From routine maintenance to rehabilitation\, the age-old art of ‘making structures — and materials — last’ is regaining prestige and\, above all\, ecological\, economic\, aesthetic and political relevance.  \n\n\nConceived as a follow-up to the seminar ‘MAINTAINING. Architecture and Maintenance\,’ these international and interdisciplinary study days provide an opportunity to examine in detail the role of maintenance in the life of the built environment\, to challenge the apparent rigidity of the separation between design and maintenance\, and to revisit the sometimes long-standing presence of maintenance in architecture\, in both theory and in educational practice.  \n\n\n  \n  \nFeaturing\, in order of appearance\, presentations by:\nS. Le Garrec\, M. Serre\, P. Landauer\, P. Dufour\, P. Lefebvre\, J. Souviron\, Sarah Nichols\, B. Gaussuin\, M-J. Dumont\, T. Abenia\, R. Calzado Lopez\, M. Darrieus\, A. Wilson. \nAnd posters of the current theses by:\nS. Amighetti\, P. Dubois\, L. I. Ehrler\, E. Floret and M. S. Kocyigit. \n  \nOrganizing Committee: Jérôme Denis\, Melis Selin Kocyigit and Sonia Samadi \n\nMonday\, July 6\, from 1:45 pm to 6:00 pm – Tuesday\, July 7\, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm \nThe event will be held in French. \n  \nRegistration is free and required \nPlease fill out the registration form \n\n\n  \nDownload the program
