SUMMARY:The seminar “Change of scale – Change of nature” will welcome Sophie Houdart
DESCRIPTION:Circonscrire\, tracer\, zoner… Ce que la radioactivité fait à la nature \nCircumscribe\, trace\, zone… What radioactivity does to nature \n \n  \n  \nSophie Houdard is an anthropologist\, director of research at the CNRS and member of the Laboratory of Ethnology and Comparative Sociology (LESC\, UMR 7186\, CNRS – University Paris Nanterre). She explores modes of construction and local practices of modernity in Japan\, as well as the theme of creation and innovation. In autumn 2012\, she began a research project on life after the triple catastrophe that look place in the Northeast Japan (a tsunami\, an earthquake\, and a nuclear accident). On this question\, she contributed to the creation of a hybrid collective\, Call It Anything\, headed by F93\, regrouping several social science researchers\, artists\, and video makers for experiments intersecting with the themes of trouble\, damaged territory\, radioactivity\, and the restoration of the existing \nThe research seminar « Change of scale – Change of nature »\nThe generalist and interdisciplinary seminar “Change of scale – Change of nature” is organized by the CSI and the Eco-anthropology laboratory of the Natural History Museum by Léo MARIANI (MNHN\, Eco-anthropology)\, Julien BLANC (MNHN\, Eco-anthropology)\, Brice LAURENT (CNRS\, CSI) and Jean GOIZAUSKAS (Mines Paris\, CSI). Postulating that changes in scale (re)condition the nature of things as well as the observations made of them\, this seminar intends to raise the issues of measurement and commensurability\, of growth and degrowth. \nRead more about the seminar and the 2022 program. \nDetails and registration\nThe seminar is open to the public upon registration.
