Seminar ‘Architecture and maintenance, what we care about’

Architecture and maintenance, what we care about’
session #15
Social housing: the right to maintenance
with David Mégrier and Christophe Lheureux, from the Operations Department of the Immobilière 3F Group.
In the public space, social housing buildings seem to be caught between the abstract moments of their inauguration and their rehabilitation — or even “urban renewal,” which is still all too often synonymous with demolition and reconstruction. In the time between these momentous events, ordinary material life is out of the spotlight of news headlines and politics.
It is in the hands of social housing providers, who are at the forefront of implementing a “right to maintenance”—a right that requires them to deal with wear and tear on materials and, at times, recalcitrant usages, even as their resources have been steadily dwindling. How can they continue to ensure the daily maintenance of common and private areas under the best possible conditions? How can they balance rehabilitation and maintenance without focusing solely on energy-efficient renovations?
